The Injectors

So the last couple of weeks at polytech I have been working on branding for my band The Injectors. For this I have decided to create a custom typeface for a text based logo and then the aim is to produce marketing material and artwork for the band. So the band is a hard rock band with a heavy blues influence so for the logo typeface I decided to go for an old Americana style but with a bit of a contemporary tattoo style cursive. With the merging of the two I think I have managed to find a balance between both a masculine and feminine style font. Kind of slightly androgynous I guess?

Holiday Stuff

So for the last couple of weeks I have been on holiday from Tech and have found myself to become easily distracted from finishing an animation assignment that is due once I get back to tech. Instead of spending time working on my assignment I have kept myself busy by doing stuff for Family and Friends. Here is a few things that I have done whilst on sabbatical from Polytech...
So my girlfriend is the secretary for the Timaru District Girl Guides and they are putting together a quiz night to raise funds for a camp so I got to do a poster up for them. My girlfriend asked if I could just put together a 5min poster of just text but me being the weirdo that I am had to do something that was, in my mind, visually appealing.

So this was my second attempt at a poster/flier for the Timaru Farmers Market.

Andy Warhol style soup can for the Timaru Farmers Market. Unfortunately they decided not to use it as they felt that it didn't have a wholesome enough feel. Oh well?

A few mates of mine have a bike polo team so I thought I would do up a sticker design for them.

Artistic Integrity

So at polytech today I am working on a drawing brief that is to explore my perceptions of my role as an artist.

So how do I see myself as an artist? I guess in my mind I separate my craft into two catergories: design for others or myself as a means of communicating a clear and concise message with the possibility of monetary gain and then my own artistic creations which are all my own personal interpretations of the world around me that don't necessarily require a message or understanding as it is created for me as a need to step out of my design role and put my emotions or thoughts into a visual piece.

Here are a few of my sketches thus far...

Recent Work with a Street Art twist...

Just thought to begin my blogging career that I would start off with a few recent examples of my work. I have been checking out quite a bit of Street Art as of late and this has greatly influenced me I guess.

I also came across this video in my travels...
